I own an Asus Maximus V Formula mobo. It contains an Intel Z77 chipset supporting:
2x SATA 6Gps
2x SATA 3Gps
It also contains ASMedia SATA Controller supporting:
4x SATA 6.0 Gps
I'm trying to attach 2x SSD drives (RAID0) + 2x HDD (RAID0). Currently the SSDs are attached to the Intel Z77's 2x 6Gps and the HDDs are attached to the Intel Z77's 2x 3Gps. SATA MODE = [ RAID ]. I then attached the 1x DVDRW to the ASMedia SATA Controller.
The problem is the DVDRW is not being detected in BIOS and so i am unable to boot from it after POST. The only time it is detected is if it is attached to the Intel Z77 SATA ports NOT the ASMedia ports. For the record the BIOS option 'ASM1061 Storage Controller' is enabled. Anything attached to the ASMedia ports are NOT DETECTED by the BIOS.
The ASMedia port baffles me. I am guessing it ONLY comes alive once in Windows through drivers. And so moving my 2x HDD to ASMedia (with the help of Windows drivers and then suffer some performance hit) and having the DVD on the Intel Z77 could be fine having it the other way around is not possible.
Is this true? Can you help me better understand this ASMedia controller and how to get it functioning at POST?
